"Hop" this way for an EGGstravagant Easter!

Posted on March 27, 2017 | 0 comments

Easter Sunday or "Chocolate Sunday" this year falls on Sunday the 16th of April! Easter is always a busy time for us here at Disguises Costumes, with many of our wide range of Mascot Bunny Suits going out to schools, churches and all sorts of functions to bring joy to kids and adults alike!

We are open our usual hours Monday to Saturday over Easter except for the public holidays: Good Friday (14/4), Easter Monday (17/4) when we are closed and of course, Easter Sunday. We are open Easter Saturday, 15/04/2017 from 9am until 4pm for you to hop in for all your last minute bunny needs.

Bunny suits, what we're known and loved for at this time of year! These costumes are the real deal and would make a fabulous edition to your Sunday morning Easter egg hunt! We have a wide range of bunnies in different height sizes and colours. These costumes are sadly only available to Hire from our Brisbane store. View the range here. Be sure to book your Bunny hire in advance as these costumes book out very quickly.

Sometimes the big mascots can scare the kids - especially the little ones. A solution to keep everyone happy on Easter is with our Adult White Rabbit costume. This costume (unlike the mascots) has an open face so the little ones can still see you! This costume also includes a separate top and pants and furry mittens and shoe covers. Just add a basket of eggs and you'll be a hit.

Whats orange and sounds like a parrot? A carrot!! A new product to our Easter collection this year is our Crazy Carrot Adult Costume. This oversized carrot jumpsuit complete with carrot top will make a wonderful addition you your Easter Event... Just imagine; The bunny chasing the carrot, the kids chasing the bunny all while you get to sit down and enjoy the hot cross buns while they're still hot! Everybody wins!!

Also new this year is our Adult standard sized Deluxe Bunny mascot to buy for $189.90. This costume includes a jumpsuit with attached boot covers, bunny head, mittens, vest and bow tie. Get in quick as this is a highly sought after product!
For the little ones we have our adorable children's white bunny costume for children available to buy. Just the thing for the Easter Parade! Costume is light-weight one-piece jumpsuit with zip-up front and attached hood with bunny head. Just adorable!! We also have this costume in an adult sized for those parents and kids wanting to wear matching costumes!

We also have a range of Bunny ears to buy as well colourful "spring" stockings (Autumn for us antipodeans), wigs, lashes, cheeky hot pants and twirl-tastic tutu's to add a splash of colour to your cheery Easter outfit!

Easter has a more important meaning in the religious sense with the death of Christ and the symbolism of new life. For this, we have our Jesus robewig & beard for church groups recreating the stages of the cross. For those Jesus' wanting to carry the cross but may have missed an arm day (or two) at the gym, we have our Cross Necklaces which might be a little more manageable than a life sized cross!

To celebrate 'New Life' comes the rainbow after the rain - and so you too can symbolise new life and the resurrection of Jesus in a variety of rainbow accented outfits

For those a little more, er, "Adult" Parties, we have our Hugh Hefner Smoking Jacket so you can feel like the King of the Playboy Mansion with your Fluffle of Bunnies. Ladies, just add a set of ears, cuffs and collar to a corset or lingerie with black pantyhose and heels for that perfect Playboy Bunny look. Don't forget to practice your Bunny Dip!

When: Thursday, 9th March 2017

While we have many Greek/Roman toga costumes for sale, it's best to go straight to the top with our Roman conqueror, Caesar costume. Just be sure to steer clear of anyone with intentions to stab you in the back... Brutus, I'm looking at you!! This toga is by far our most popular choice for men - and given the price, it is unbeatable!
Other choices for men include the White & Blue Roman Senator costume or the Spartan 300 Deluxe costume which comes with the maroon velveteen toga complete with helmet and wrist and shin guards. This toga would be a great choice for blokes who don't think a white toga will remain white during the party.

Of course when it comes to the ladies the choices are endless, from the classic white togas to gorgeous flowing goddess gowns you will be sure to find something to suit. Dress as an elegant goddess in our white and silver Greek Goddess costume, or white and blue Roman Toga or white and red Goddess Toga. The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival is here!! YAAAS! Mardi Gras has a proud 39-year history of highlighting and fostering rights and equality for LGBTQI individuals and communities. In 2017 the aim is to celebrate all that has been achieved, and shine the spotlight brightly on ways we can all work together to eliminate discrimination and prejudice in all its forms. The even is run over 2 weeks from 17th February to 5th March 2017 with many events happening daily and the major parade on Saturday, March 4th 2017. So if you haven't booked your flights yet, you're going to be sorry when you miss out - They don't call it 'Gay Christmas' for nothing!!

The spectacular Mardi Gras Festival will showcase the amazing LGBTQI diversity and difference, and unity. From the Mad Hatter, to the Queen of Hearts, to TweedleDee & TweedleDum, you'll surely be able to find something as you fall down the rabbit hole.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Posted on January 31, 2017 | 0 comments

Inspired from Shakespeare's classic tale, (and typically dramatic love story) you can take to the woods and become the woodland creature your dreams have been made of!

Typical setting for this party is quite earthy and involving nature under the moonlight, so head outside and turn your backyard into your own fairy wonderland! Have fairy lights woven among hedges and dripping from trees, create centerpieces involving branches and leaves and scatter lots of cushions around to create quite an intimate setting. Be sure to have a cocktail menu to match - We recommend anything involving Absinthe, berries with mint and cucumber garnishes! Delish!!

Being that the story follows four Athenian lovers who find themselves immersed in an enchanted forest, your attire can be quite broad from flowing goddess gowns to sweet fairies and naughty nymphs. Top this look with some dramatic makeup with painted glitter eyes and a Lux mask and you'll be set to create some magic!

For an Athenian look representing characters Hermia or Helena, our gorgeous Golden Goddess or Grecian Queen dresses with a pair of Gold leg wraps and beautiful gold glitter lashes would definitely have you looking the part.
You could always do as they do in Hollywood and get away with more of a risque look for these characters with our Slave Leia costume. Yes, this costume is typically for a Star Wars look however the flow of the skirt paired with the gold aspect and the look of vines across the bust would make one sexy "Athenian in the woods" look.

For male Athenian character's there is Theseus, Duke of Athens or Lysander and Demetrius (who are involved within a love quartet with Hermia & Helena). Outfits for these characters would consist of toga's and strappy sandals. Both of which are available to hire or buy as Disguises Costumes.

For those wanting to portray Titania, the beautiful Queen of the Fairies, or one of her Fae friends we have the cheeky Rebel Tink Costume, Gorgeous Tinkerbell Woodland Costume, Sweet Tinkerbell Shimmer Costume, and Matronly Fairy Godmother's (for anyone not brave enough to dare to bare!). Don't forget to add the finishing touches of a coloured wiglashes and glitter body paint or gel to create whimsical designs over your arms and face like a true fairy.

You could also the dark take on a fairy look with a Sexy Vampire Queen or Diva Demonique outfit paired with a pair of black Angel wings, black fishnet thigh hi's and a Venetian Lux mask - Perfect for a fallen angel.

Alternate woodland creature ideas for ladies would be the Poison Ivy Vixen costume. Although she is a super-villain in the DC world, she definitely would be welcomed at a Midsummer Night's Dream party as she is a lover of nature and desires for the world to be overrun by plants - just watch out for her lethal kiss! Another character suitable for the nature setting is Maleficent. Although she is a menace to humans in her own world, she once was a quirky fairy, beloved by her fellow woodland creatures. Poor Maleficent was driven to become evil when she was betrayed by her true love which certainly could be a character straight out of a Shakespeare play.

The Mystic Sorcerer costume would be a perfect outfit for portraying character Oberon, King of the Fairies. Oberon is a very strong character and known for his wickedness however becomes kind towards the end of the story.
Jester to Oberon is Puck, a "shrewd and knavish sprite". For this character we have our fun Jester costume available to hire.
For a creature of the woods, we have our Men's Beast costume which consists of a horned, furry headpiece, a jacket and clawed gloves.

Also guys, if dressing up like a mythical creature isn't really your thing, just remember that this party is made famous by the Playboy Mansion, so you can always be like Hugh and dress in his signature Smokers Jacket paired with a pipe and captains hat. Surround yourself with gorgeous women for those wanting the authentic Hef look.

SEE YOU IN THE FOREST...

Summer Splash Costume Party Theme's & Ideas!

Posted on January 27, 2017 | 0 comments

Who said you had to wait to be invited to a party?! While Mother Nature certainly has turned up the the heat, throw a cool party of your own and make this a Summer to remember!!

The easiest and most obvious party to gather your friends and family is by hosting a pool party - But why not give it a great theme?! Take a look at some great ideas below to take your party to the next level!

Hawaiian Luau

Create your own Tiki bar and feel right at home in Hawaii! You'll be able to relax and feel like you're on a holiday - without the dreaded 10 hour flight... Welcome your guests with a beautiful Lei and make them feel like they are on vacation with you. Ahhh, Bliss!! Eat some delicious fresh fruit (in a cocktail counts, right?) don your Coconut Bra and Grass Skirt for the ladies and cheesy Hawaiian shirt and moustache a-la Magnum, P.I. for the gents. Turn up the music and Hula the night away! If you're lucky, Elvis might even make an appearance to say "Aloha from Hawaii".

Nautical Seaside Party

Land Ahoy! Man overboard! Your ship has crashed on the sandbanks of a new land. Time to take to the shore and discover your own little island oasis. Be the captain of your party and steer your guests towards a great night. Is that a mermaid in the distance? Send one of your trusty deckhand to go and investigate. Don't worry, if they get into strife one of the Baywatch babes can always come to the rescue with a little CPR.
Be careful that pirates don't get a message in a bottle about your party or they might decide to hijack it - Though they'd be a welcomed guest should they be the likes of Captain Jack Sparrow (Mmmm... Johnny Depp...).
Decor for your party can simply be a nautical colour scheme in the colours of Red, White & Blue. A scattering of shells and sand around the pool with some inflatable life rings and menu of some fresh seafood. Don't forget to "Slip a shrimp on the barbie" as we are still in Australia after all.

Arabian Nights

For those not lucky enough to have a pool, never fear, you can use the hot weather to your advantage and throw a sizzling Arabian Nights themed party. Rub the Genie's lamp and fly Princess Jasmine away to a Whole New World on your magic flying carpet - Just like Aladdin. *Note: We sadly don't actually stock any flying carpets, however we guarantee if you drink enough, you can always lay down on your own carpet at home and certainly feel like you're flying!

Mexican Fiesta

Andale! While the heat is turned up you could also have a Mexican Fiesta party. Picture Ponchos, Sombrerosoversized moustaches and novelty sunglasses under the blazing sun while sipping on a Tequila Sunrise or Corona and eating some delicious food. Perfect recipe for a Siesta. Go one step further with your look and go for an all out Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) look for the gents and our caliente Senorita or Doll dress for the ladies. We also have a great range of sugar skull temporary tattoo's including the face tattoo for those looking for ease in obtaining the Sugar Skull look without the fuss of the intricate makeup. Don't forget to include a crowd favourite of the Piñata. After a couple of drink's this will make for some hilarious entertainment. Arriba!!

Frozen Party

Remember Winter?? Do you remember it?! Although it seems like a distant memory, or a mirage if you will, you could bring back the cool and throw a Frozen themed party! Not only will the kids love you for it (Surely they haven't forgotten the words to 'Let It Go') but it can be a great excuse to turn up the air-con and turn your home into a Nordic Fjord. Hire a snow cone machine, decorate your ice palace with draping blue and white fabric and in invite your friends - Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf

1950's Retro Pool Party

Any excuse to wear an itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini, drink milkshakes and share a banana split or two! A 1950's party idea would be to host a "dive-in movie" night out by the pool! Play some swell Fifties themed flicks like Grease, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Rebel Without a Cause or Edward Scissorhands which you can pair with classic diner food like Hotdogs, Burgers, French Fries and some homemade Lemonade.

1970's Roller Disco Party

For those whose memory is a little blurry (or for those who weren't yet born - Hello Generation Y), Roller Disco's were all the rage throughout the 1970's and early 80's. They called for Hotpants, Knee high tube socks, brightly coloured shirts and accessories - and did we mention HOTPANTS!? There are still plenty of Roller Rink's around so why not grab your friends and roll back to 1970!! Dance around to some classic disco tunes by the 'Bee Gees', 'KC and the Sunshine Band', 'Earth, Wind & Fire' & ABBA!

Whatever theme you decide, we look forward to seeing you at Disguises to help you find the perfect outfit to keep you looking and feline as cool as these cool cats!!!
