Find Your Perfect Mexican Costume

What comes to mind when you think of a traditional Mexican costume? Ponchos and sombreros? A Flamenco dancer’s dress? Sugar skull face-paint? Whatever pops up in your mind can be brought to life with Disguises. We’ve put together a few Mexican costume ideas to give you some inspiration on how to create your outfit.

Mexican Costumes for Men

Choose the style and colours that suit you from our huge range of ponchos. If you’re in need of something more specific, you can find it at Disguises.

With Mexican costumes spanning a range of themes, you can become an authentic:

  • Señor
  • Bandito
  • Fiesta goer
  • Day of the Dead skeleton
  • Mariachi band member
  • Bullfighter.

Matched with complementary accessories, our Mexican costumes give you the proper foundation to become a completely new character at a party at your friend’s house or at a festival that flows through the streets.

Mexican Costumes for Women

Dazzle as a Flamenco dancer, or spook as a skeleton for Day of the Dead. No matter what event you’re going to, Disguises has a Mexican costume to suit it. And with costume jewellery, flower headbands and masks, you can create the perfect costume you want. We have Mexican costumes for women to transform you into a:

  • Flamenco dancer
  • New Carmen Miranda
  • Señora or Señorita
  • Fiesta goer
  • Day of the Dead skeleton.

If you’d rather join a Mariachi band or ransack villages as an infamous bandito, try our men’s costumes – they’re made comfortable and easy to wear. You could even add the moustache.

What is Cinco de Mayo?

We all love dressing up and celebrating Mexican festivals. But when May 5th comes around, what are we actually celebrating?

Well, almost 200 years ago (5th of May, 1862), the outnumbered Mexican army overcame the French Empire in a great battle: the Battle of Puebla. This inspiring victory laid the foundation of the resilience behind Mexico and its people.

Now, every four years on the 5th of May, a celebration is held to commemorate the victory, but also of Mexican culture. Cinco de Mayo has become a hugely popular annual celebration that reaches dozens of countries around the world for different reasons. In the US, the event is a celebration or Mexican-American culture – hence all the parties! But it was also made very popular by the advertising campaigns from Mexican beer companies.

So, what’s this got to do with Australia? Well, for whatever reasons, Cinco de Mayo celebrations are becoming more and more popular here. This gives us a great excuse to throw a Mexican costume party and enjoy all things Mexican (including tequila!).

Mexican Costume Accessories

It’s the finishing touches that turn a Mexican costume into a full-blown character outfit. From jewellery to sugar skull masks, you can mix the right Mexican costume accessories and create a convincing persona.

Make Up and Temporary tattoos

An outfit for the Day of the Dead needs the white lines of bones. Our range of quality face paint allows you to quickly get the deadly look and enjoy the festivities between worlds. And with a great range of stunning temporary tattoos, you can embrace the Day of the Dead with colourful, authentic designs.

Mexican Moustaches

Thanks to Mexican stars in old Hollywood movies, moustaches are synonymous with any Man’s Mexican costume. But if you just need a moustache for one night, why spend weeks (or months) growing one. With Disguises, you can add a handy handlebar or a fancier moustache to your Mexican costume – giving it that great finishing touch.

Whether you’re heading out to celebrate Cinco de Mayo or Day of the Dead at one of the many public events held each year across Australia, going to a Mexican costume party with friends or host your own celebrations, you can look the part with a Mexican costume from Disguises.
