- Don’t Go Thirsty
Once you’ve got your Cinco de Mayo costume, you can start to think about the catering. And there’s nothing better than some specialty drinks to get everyone in the party mood. You could stick to the basics and get some Mexican beers – Corona is always a good choice – or spice it up with a custom-made cocktail incorporating everyone’s favourite Mexican liquor: tequila.
A basic margarita is easy, and it’s sure to be a hit with the crowd. All you need is:
- 1 shot (30mL) triple sec or other citrus-flavoured liqueur
- 2 shots of tequila
- Lime or lemon juice
- A slice of lime
Once you’ve got all the ingredients, you just need to dampen the rim of each glass with lime, then dip them in salt so the edge is covered. Next, put the juice, tequila and triple sec in a cocktail shaker with ice and mix, then pour into your glasses. Easy! For a twist, you could add some crushed chilli peppers or pomegranate juice – your guests will be impressed by your creativity.
- Get the Guac
Food is one thing that people will remember about a party, and luckily, everybody loves Mexican cuisine! Don’t be afraid to go all out – nachos, tacos, burritos and enchiladas are all easy to make in large quantities for your guests. And the best part? It can all be prepared ahead of time and so you don’t have to spend the whole time worrying. Or, you could let people make their own for some DIY party fun.
- Have fun!
Your guests can’t have a good time if you’re not! You could even think about organising some party games to get everyone socialising and laughing – play pin the sombrero on the mariachi, crack the piñata or even offer a prize for best dressed!
With these 4 tips, you’re sure to host an amazing Mexican-themed event. So what are you waiting for? Get your amigos together and party!
